Two lovers die in crash, two others injured in lorry-car accident after birthday do
By ANDREW SAGAYAM
KUALA LUMPUR: A birthday celebration turned tragic when two people died and two others were injured in an accident near the National Heart Institute in Jalan Tun Razak early yesterday morning.
The victims, Wong Tuck Seong, 23, and his girlfriend Leong Pui Leng, a 27-year-old manicurist, died when the car driven by Wong crashed into a lorry.
Tragic end: Fire and Rescue personnel had to extricate the bodies of Wong and his girlfriend Pui Leng (inset), from the Kelisa. The couple were killed in an accident after a birthday celebration yesterday.
Wong and Leong, who died on the spot, had been courting for four years and had planned to get married later this year.
In the 5am incident, the Perodua Kelisa crashed into a one tonne lorry transporting fish and vegetables. Fire and Rescue personnel had to cut through the damaged car belonging to Leong’s mother to extricate the bodies.
Two other passengers seated at the back, Wong’s brother, Tuck Wai, 17, in critical condition and is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (KLH) while Pui Leng’s brother, Ah Weng, 19, suffered minor injuries.
The four had earlier celebrated Ah Weng’s birthday.
When met at KLH, Ah Weng said Wong apparently lost control of the car before slamming into the lorry. “It happened so fast. All I can remember is that I blacked out soon after the crash,” the teary-eyed Ah Weng added.
City traffic police investigations and prosecution division head DSP Abdullah Roning said the lorry driver suffered a heart attack during the incident. He was rushed to the KLH and is reported to be in stable condition.
In Banting, EDWARD RAJENDRA reported that three school boys on a joyride were killed and another seriously injured when their car overturned into a ditch in Sijangkang near here early Sunday morning.
According to a police source, the four boys, all aged 17, were in a Proton Perdana at about 2am when the police spotted them behaving in a suspicious manner.
In the high speed chase that ensued, the Proton Perdana landed in the ditch while the patrol car crashed into an oil palm.
The driver of the Proton Perdana and two passengers in the back seat were killed on the spot.
The surviving school boy, seated in the front passenger seat, sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) for treatment.
The driver of the patrol car suffered a fractured leg and has also been admitted to the HTAR. The other policeman in the patrol car was given outpatient treatment.
